My name is Justin Hawkins.  I joined the US Army in 1995 as a UH-1 Huey Mechanic. While at Fort Rucker, Alabama I was re-classed and became a UH-60 Mechanic.  I became a crew chief once back in my unit and after attending Air Assault school, back at Fort Rucker, I applied for SOAR's Task Force 160.  I was accepted and while there I became a Flight Engineer and enjoyed every minute of flying with the Nightstalkers.  We flew a lot of SEALs, Delta Force and other Special Operations groups all over and I was lucky enough to become friends with a few of those guys. I was able to train with those men in a non-professional setting at local ranges both on and off base.  In our off-time, these guys taught me a lot about shooting and how to properly handle handguns and rifles.  I really enjoy shooting and being able to pass along my knowledge and skillset to those who want to become more proficient at shooting and handling a handgun.

Although not required to teach these courses, I have obtained my NRA Instructor Certification and Range Safety Officer Certification to make sure that all training is done in the safest environment possible.  The NRA Instructor Certification has taught me to how to teach others the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will lead to a lifetime of safe, enjoyable and successful involvement in firearm and shooting activities. Being an instructor allows me to provide an invaluable service in my community.  As firearm and shooting activities expand, and more Americans choose to exercise their right to carry a firearm, so too grows the need for courses like those offered by Tacitus Handgun Training.

To keep up on my skills, I currently compete in two or three competitions per month and I hone my personal skills on my range at least once per week practicing various skills and drills.

During my career in the Army, I received two Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, two Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Superior Unit Award, a Master Aircraft Crewman Badge, Air Assault Badge as well as Expert badges for both Pistol and Rifle.
